June 6-7 Salzburg

Early in the morning, Sierra, Saylor, Hannah, Kaitlyn, and I caught a train to Salzburg. We had to make several transfers; at one point, the police boarded the train to check everyone's passports. I was expecting it, but I was still kind of stressed. Everything went great, though! Along the way, we saw the scenery change to that lush forest area.

When we finally got to Salzburg, about 7 hours later, we dropped our bags off at the AirBnB. We thought we had rented out the entire home but apparently, it was more of a hostel situation. We were in the basement apartment. There were lots of bugs and people we didn't know. At least we had a room we could lock and had it all to ourselves. We then headed into town to find some food and have some fun. At the first place we checked out, there weren't any vegetarian options so I hunted for food while everyone else ordered. We found a place called "Afro Bar" which finally had vegetarian options! I ordered by food and avoided accepting the beer they wanted me to have. Thanks, no thanks. They had the hardest time understanding that!

Along the way, we found a missionary who recommended some places but we couldn't find any of them. Nice try, Elder Hansen. His companion was down the sidewalk talking to some other people, so don't worry.

After dinner, some of the girls were still hungry so we went to another place and I ordered dessert. I can't remember the name of the treat because it was definitely in German, but it was so good! It was almost like a German Pancake with molten raspberries on it. What a treat!
We kept walking and saw a cute bridge and a playground we had a lot of fun on. As we headed back into town, it started pouring rain! We were able to catch a glimpse of the Mirabell Gardens before running for shelter.

When we finally got back to our AirBnB, we were just hanging out when I saw a MASSIVE spider on the wall. I started screaming; some of the girls made fun of me until they saw the size of this bad boy. Luckily, one of them killed it. RIP buddy. I decided not to sleep in that room any more; they might be MoreTM.

The next morning, we packed up our things and stored all the luggage at the train station before heading to the Sound of Music tour. We got on a tour bus with people from all over the world and saw of the most incredible, memorable places in cinematic history.

This is the exterior of the patio that they dance in during Sixteen Going on Seventeen. The interior had to be bigger so they built it on a Hollywood stage.

This is the path that Maria goes down singing I Have Confidence.

This is just a picture of us in front of a beautiful view!

This is complicated, so that house in the background is what they used for the lake/patio scene when they fall out of the boat, but the house in the film is the yellow house, not this one. Very complicated editing.

We took a little trip into the town where Maria and Captain Von Trapp were married. The church is just gorgeous! The interior of Germanic churches is pretty different. For one, the ceilings are decorated in a lacework pattern.

Although the exterior of the church isn't seen in the movie (because it is supposed to be taking place in the abbey), I thought this was really cute.

In Cafe Braun, we ordered "crisp apple strudel" just like in the song Favorite Things!

We also stopped by this crystal clear lake; we all wanted to go for a swim!

Once we made it back to town and after viewing the Mirabell Gardens, Sierra and I headed to St Peter's Cemetery, the cemetery the film is based off of. The biggest difference I found was the fact that there were definitely no tomb stones they could hide behind in these cage-like plots.

As we tried to make our way back to the train station, we came across the fountain that Maria spashes in.

We also saw the Cathedral of Salzburg; it was gorgeous!

We took the train for a 3 hour ride to Vienna and luckily, everything went according to plan. I easily could have spent more time in Salzburg, so I'll just have to go back.
